My Story
My journey in Human Resources began at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers as a student intern. I found myself diving headfirst into the world of government HR, and little did I know that it would lead me on a path of continuous growth, challenge, and innovation in the field of human resources.

In those early days, I was a sponge, absorbing everything I could about recruitment, placement, and classification. The complexity of government HR systems fascinated me, and I found myself drawn to the intricacies of position management and organizational design. It was here that I learned an invaluable lesson: HR isn't just about managing people; it's about shaping the very structure of an organization to achieve its mission.

As I progressed in my career, moving through roles at the U.S. Army, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the Oregon Health Authority, I began to see a common thread. Regardless of the agency or the specific role, there was always an opportunity to innovate, to find better ways of doing things. I remember the thrill of implementing my first automated position classification system, delivering it ahead of schedule and under budget. It was a moment that crystallized my belief in the power of technology to transform HR practices.

But my journey wasn't always smooth sailing. I faced challenges that tested my resolve and pushed me to grow both professionally and personally. One particular project stands out in my memory. I was tasked with redesigning the organizational structure for a large agency, a project that had the potential to save millions of dollars. The stakes were high, and the resistance to change was strong. I spent countless nights poring over data, running analyses, and refining my proposal. In the end, the new structure was implemented, resulting in $5 million in cost savings. This experience taught me the importance of perseverance and data-driven decision-making in driving organizational change.

As my career progressed, I found myself increasingly drawn to the strategic aspects of HR. I wasn't content with just implementing policies; I wanted to shape them. This led me to pursue my SPHR certification and later, to co-found SopHRa. This entrepreneurial venture opened my eyes to the world of possibilities in HR technology and reinforced my belief in the transformative power of innovative HR solutions.

Today, as I look back on my journey, I'm filled with gratitude for the experiences that have shaped me into the HR professional I am today. From the young college graduate eager to make his mark, to the seasoned consultant helping organizations transform their HR practices, every step of this journey has reinforced my passion for this field.

But my story isn't just about me. It's about the countless individuals I've had the privilege to work with, mentor, and learn from along the way. It's about the organizations that have trusted me to help them navigate complex HR challenges. And it's about the future of HR – a future that I believe is bright, dynamic, and full of opportunity.
